Request to the citizens and companies of Yamaguchi Prefecture

I would like to express my gratitude to all the citizens and companies of Yamaguchi for your cooperation in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 through efforts like staying home and temporarily closing facilities.

Thanks to your efforts, our prefecture has been able to avoid the rapid spread of the virus seen in bigger cities. However, many cases have been confirmed in neighboring prefectures and the situation is highly unpredictable.

The declaration of the state of emergency to all the prefectures has been extended to May 31st. Therefore, it will continue to cause a burden to our citizens and companies, but I would like to ask for your continued cooperation and understanding in the below efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus to save the lives of yourself and those important to you.

・To mitigate the spread, please continue to refrain from all un-essential travel between prefectures. If there is someone thinking about coming to Yamaguchi from another prefecture, please continue to strongly encourage them otherwise.

・Although the request to ‘refrain from going out except for daily necessities’ has been lifted as of May 6th, please continue to avoid the Three C’s (closed spaces, crowded places, close-contact settings). In particular, please refrain from going out to restaurants, etc. that are associated with entertainment in downtown areas.

・To all the companies, I ask for the continued promotion of remote work and staggered hours to minimize contact between people. Please also encourage washing hands, staying home when symptoms show, and using tools like video conferencing to reduce travel of your employees.

・I ask that each and every one of the citizens of this prefecture take precautionary measures against the virus, such as washing hands, avoiding closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings. In particular, I ask that facilities where the Three C’s are of concern to thoroughly take measures to mitigate the spread of the virus.

・Those who traveled outside of Yamaguchi, those who are visiting their hometown from outside of Yamaguchi, or those who spent time with these people, please refrain going outside for two weeks.

If this applies to you, please also avoid contact as much as possible with those you are living with.

MURAOKA Tsugumasa
