Request to the citizens and companies of Yamaguchi Prefecture

April 17th, 2020

Taking into consideration that COVID-19 results from the movement of people across the country and to mitigate further spread across Japan, especially during Golden Week, all prefectures were declared to be in a state of emergency from April 16th to May 6th.

Cases are rapidly increasing in neighboring prefectures and cases in Yamaguchi are being confirmed one after another, and the situation is highly unpredictable.

I would like to ask for your cooperation in the following points until May 6th in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and protect yourself as well as the lives of those important to you. We hope you aim to reduce contact with people by at least 70% and if possible 80%.

◎ To mitigate the spread, please refrain from all un-essential travel between prefectures, such as returning home and going on vacation. If there is someone thinking about coming to Yamaguchi from another prefecture, please strongly encourage them otherwise.

In particular, we ask for your cooperation as we need to minimize the movement of people during Golden Week.

◎ Please refrain from going out, except for visiting hospitals, shopping for food, medicines and daily necessities, going to work where necessary, exercising outdoors and taking walks. In particular, please refrain from going out to restaurants, etc. that are associated with entertainment in downtown areas.

◎ Going to work is excluded from un-essential travel, but I strongly encourage remote work, and for those going into work, please take measures to minimize contact between people more than ever before like biking and staggered hours.

◎ I ask that each and every one of the citizens of this prefecture take precautionary measures against the virus, such as washing the hands, avoiding closed spaces and crowded areas, as well as practicing social distancing. In particular, I ask that facilities where closed and crowed spaces are of concern to thoroughly take measures to mitigate the spread of the virus.

MURAOKA Tsugumasa

Governor of Yamaguchi Prefecture
